Re: I don't know what it is.

It looks like a clasp of some sort. The teeth on it look like they are part of a pinching mechanism. There would be another part to it that would have been connected to the front; or rear, with a pin holding them together. Garter, stocking type is possible, but it's just a guess.

It's one half of the metal portion of a wheel-style typewriter eraser.

He says it's very thin and flimsy aluminum. :-\ :)

The metal on one of those erasers is aluminum, too. "Thin" and "flimsy"? Well, it's not boilerplate, but it's not tinfoil either.

There is only one true Genius that lurks on this thread and it is I.
What do you think the G stands for in DG?
No offence to PBK, I do grant him a license.
I think I may still have one of those typewriter erasers in my desk.

Re: I don't know what it is.

Thanks PBK. Once again you truly impress me with your ability to ID items in any condition, size, shape and material. As for the flimsy. I am a telecom worker and the aluminum items we use are very sturdy. To me, when a piece that small can not stand up to my drilling it, beating it, twisting it or otherwise attempting to dismantle it, it is flimsy. You are however correct in this application that it is very sturdy for it's intended application.

Thanks,
Mike
