I found a Spencer Carbine!!! And I don't mean a bullet...

Wow. I had a fantastic day yesterday detecting. I ended up with three guns and a nice pile of relics. The water was warm, the sun was hot and I was in seventh heaven. First up is a group shot of most of my finds...

Another group shot of some different stuff. Notice the Civil War musket barrel!

Next is the Spencer Carbine! ;D It was under less than 18' of water and fully exposed. Most of the wood is gone, but I'm still as happy as can be. I'll get a video up of my finding it soon on my "Aquachigger" channel on Youtube.

On to an under water shot of the pistol I found. It too was visible from the surface. I figure it is post war, but it's still pretty darn neat...

Here is the pistol cleaned up just a tad. Does anyone have any ides as to what make and model it might be? I haven't a clue...

Here is a Spencer carbine bullet that I found. It's the same kind that goes to the carbine above. Notice how a soldier has done a little carving to the lead....

P7180028.webp

I also found a couple more "bullet sinkers". They are one of my favorite things to find. The two with the nail through them is a first for me!

And rounding out the pictures is two eagle buttons, a colonial copper and a carved bullet. It is very unusual for me to find two or three piece buttons in the water.

I hope you enjoyed for a few moments reliving the hunt with me. It was a blast and I can't wait to get back out there. Thanks for checking it out!

Whoa !! Check it out :o a Spencer carbine . That is Fantastic :headbang: :hello2: killer finds , no pun intended :laughing7: the top breaker pistol looks like a Harrington Richardson , 32 cal SW model from the 1880's . My wife has one , although her pistol of choice is a 9 mm dawg

Looking at first picture was wondering is that a centerfire cartridge? or a rivet I cannot tell?
also curious about Object in top left corner?
Icould only dream of such finds.
HH,Mont

Hey MP... the one thing is just a rivet with a bit of leather attached. The other item, I'm not so sure. It appears to be copper and I have two pieces of it. It could be post war. I'm very impressed you caught that and wanted to know what it is. If you figure it out, please let me know.

Whats the history for all these relics, where they dumped during war or after. Awesome hunt I sat :headbang:

It's in an era that saw camping and fighting throughout the war so I figure they are soldier tossed. Also, it was found in 18 inches of water, not 18 feet. Sorry about that.

Sorry about the mess I made with the pictures above. I can't delete them now. I'm still getting used to posting here. The other forum I used to be on was very different.

Re: I found a Spencer Carbine!!! And I don't mean a bullet...

I was thinking it was a Webley. Someone else back yonder said H&R!

That link is showing a later model but they made others before then.

Great finds, As I am sure you are aware , water hunting can be dangerous and I would be more than happy to come up there and be a lifeguard/swimbuddy lol . Almost makes me miss being in Pa. except its too hot up there .

Re: I found a Spencer Carbine!!! And I don't mean a bullet...

I think what you have is a 1891 S&W Schofield.
http://www.icollector.com/Smith-Wes...ot-revolver-factory-3-1-4-barrel-ni_i10488978

You might remember "The Schofield Kid" from the movie "Unforegiven" and also carried by "Charlie Prince" on the the new "3:10 to Yuma". I had a repro for several years. Really nice guns.
...and a huge WOW on all those great finds!!!!!!!!

http://www.smithandwessonforums.com/forum/s-w-revolvers-1857-1945/2698-lets-see-some-32s-2.html

"My grandmother's personal protection revolver was bought used very cheaply in the 1920s. It is of course a large frame or heavy weight (6 shot) Harrington & Richardson .32 DA. I doubt if cost much more than a few dollars back then. "

not my grandmother's pistol...lol...just the caption under the pic of the pistol.

H&R 32... looks really close to your pistol pic. would love to see that cleaned up. very cool finds! congrats man.
