I had to Push my way through Brirers to get to this Site.

My first find was on top of the ground.
These 2 Lids. Both Measure 11" by 11"
and say KELVINATOR on the handles.
They remind me of the type of lid
that would go on an Ice Cream Cooler
where you remove the Lid to Take scoops out.

!Kelvinator2.jpg
!KELVINATOR.jpg

There were Bottles & Glass laying all over also.
I wished I had taken a Sack along in.
All I had was My Finds Apron & 2 Hands
to carry my Detector, Digger & all my finds.
& Knowing I was going to be Trudging through Briers
on the way out didn't Help.

I couldn't resist this even though it's not real old.
It's Blue Glass.

and these MISSION BEVERAGE Bottles

The Nicest one says it is from TAMAQUA PA
& COMISAC'S NAT'L. BEV. CO.

The Other Ones say MISSION OF CALIFORNIA
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. U.S.A.

And I believe are from the 50's

!Mission_Beverages001.jpg

!MISSIONBEVO.jpg

I dug this up thinking it was a Coin,
It appears to be Copper.
I don't know if it's part of a Knife Sheath.
Or Money Clip, Or ?

!WATS.jpg
!WATS_it.jpg

And I did dig 2 Wheats.
1947 & 1945
No silver today.

!WhEaTs.jpg

Some unusual Spikes.
The one on the Left is Hammered Flat like a Rail Road Spike.
and 5 1/2" Long
The one on the Right Is Round but also Appears to be Hammered
and is 7" Long

!SpikeS001.jpg

And of Course My Favorite Find of the day
this Very Large Rail Road Lock.
The Flap is Rusted Fast,
And it looks Like I'll be doing Electrolysis on it
for a year ;D
But at 4 1/2 Inches Tall & 3" Wide
Makes Me VERY HAPPY.

Hey Jeff very neat finds. I wonder what the spikes were used for? Any other history on the place? Congrats any way.

Thanks Everyone.

Burdie.

It's in a Ghost Town Once known as Meckeysburg.
Just a few hundred yards South of an Abandond
House that appears to have been a Hotel at one time.
& according to the Tax Records was built in 1800.

There was also a Railroad going through the area
in the 1870's.

Those painted label bottles are becoming more and more collectible - WTG. You can buy some briar-proof clothing from places like Cabela's so you can push your way through the brambles easier. Might help you remain sticker-proof.

My Vicks jar is on a glass shelf in my familyroom window - it's beautiful when the sun shines through it. Although not old (well, not to me because I grew up with them), they are nonetheless beautiful. Found mine where somebody dumped a single bag of trash probably 50 years ago.

More pix and story, please. :)

Re: I found another Grove today.

Neat bunch of finds, Jeff. Love the lock. Had to chuckle at the Vicks bottle because we've brought home two from our local dump. Yes, even I remember glass Vicks bottles. But they are all plastic now, I believe, so the glass ones may be collectible some day. :)

Seems like they are still pretty popular down under...perhaps some of our Aussie friends could shed some lite...

Way cool lock too...got some serious size...

Nick

Yep gotta love a Kelvinator one of the top brands (in my opinion) that you can buy over here. I got a nice little aircon that goes like a ripper.
Yep you're gonna be on the electrolysis for a while with that lock ;D
Cool digs 8)

Re: I found another Grove today.

Fun stuff. Lot's of good stuff. Even though I am primarily a coin shooter I have recently found some cool old bottles. So now I collect bottles too. ::) :) I would have taken that blue vicks container too. ;D

Sounds like a good spot. I think I would take a weed wacker with me...not the gas one, a manual one that you swing or some clippers to clear yourself a path through the briars. Have you hunted near the old house?

A lot of work getting there, but sounds like a good spot to hunt. Love the old pop bottles. Good luck on return!!
