Yipes! :o Nastly lookin little thing!

No he's not Nana!! He's beautimus! ;D Looks like our Iggy that just passed away. I loved my lizard and they can be tamed and are very sweet and affectionate. Too bad that so many are "running away from home" down there. Those guys are probably not so nice and can inflict a very nasty bite! And yes..........they can get up to six feet long!!

Better luck on your next hunt! Hopefully you won't run into any of those precious boas!

Moon

That's cool, but if I'd run up on an iguana by accident, like that, I think I'd've had a brief adrenaline rush! :o

Actually, I once did- and it was in Florida- St. Pete. Came across this MONSTER of an iguana, out in somebody's front yard. I was walkin' down the sidewalk. But this was somebody's pet and they'd just let it out to wander. It wasn't semi-wild or anything. Still, it made me step back really fast, at first!

Wowzers there some interesting animals-might introduce some perenties to keep em under control!!!

Have fun-

MMMMMMMMMMMM iguana ;D

I've been going to Florida for years and have started seeing more iguanas lately. I was at a wedding last year in the Ft. Lauderdale area at a restaurant right on the ocean. Check out this 4 foot long iguana that was on the roof of this fancy restaurant.

Holy Smoke...I would have been gone!
Why? ??? that creature is cute! ;D

Yep, I would have taken me a picture too, after I went and cleaned up and changed my drawers. I don't like reptiles of any sort. They freak me me out really bad. I was weed eating at the inlaws estate a few years ago as a favor when they were between yard men and a copperhead tried to snag me. I didn't even see it, I felt something bumping against my leg and looked down and it had missed my leg and hit my sock and got tangled in it. I whacked it with the weedeater, hoping that I'd kill it without it getting a better bite at me. It worked, but I was freaked out for weeks. I wear long pants more now, and am more aware of my surroundings. It coulda had me! I don't like the beasties even a smidge.

I do a lot of hiking in the Glades. Have learned over the years to look down, every step. Thats probably why I find a lot of money too. :)

I dont know the difference between a Nile or Asian monitor, but I have seen some big ones. I will google it.
I have seen two different lizards right at home in my back yard not mentioned. One was about a foot long and all flourescent light green. The other looked like the old Budweiser gecko crawling slowly and deliberately along the power line. Remember the commercial: "your mother was an iguana!" It looked funny. I didnt get pic.
There really isn't much difference betwen the two.Just a slight color difference and pattern variation. The light green one about a foot long that you saw was probably a Cuban anole, much like the regular anoles only larger and they will bite the crap out of you if handled improperly (without gloves!).Loiue the lizard, the Budweiser gecko was actually a Chameleon.

Your a smart man. ;D

It is kinda a shame all the hard work so many have done to keep the glades safe. At the moment one of the bigger threats is comming from irresponsible pet owners. Last time I was in S. Florida I saw a Macaw, Burmese Python, 3 cuban anoles, and six differant species of gecko, and that was in January. The geckos got here by hitching a ride on all those container ships.

Yes, most exotics are harmful. I happen to like the little house geckos. They can survive indoors and they love to eat roaches and termites!
