I thought we'd been through all of the childhood diseases...

but boy was I wrong. As I type this, Danglangley is an itching, scratching mess. Seems our 5 year-old grand daughter gave him a healthy dose of the chicken pox although he is "certain" he already had them. One spot has now turned into about 20 and he isn't his usual ornery self at all. Those of you with little ones, about how long does this stuff hang around? I remember having them but don't remember how long they lasted. Well, gotta go check on "Spot" and see what he's up to now... :wink:

28 days to incubate no longer contagious after the spots come and the fever breaks ! Lasts about a week if I remember right, it wasn't that long ago the grandkids 1 really had them and he had then 2 times ! Yep! If you get a real light case they can come back and they are harder on you when your older .

The actual blisters and itches and such usually last abot a week to 10 days.

Thanks guys. Danglangley is feeling a little better today and I think he finally kicked the fever. His spots are looking a little better too. I was thinking about a week but I couldn't remember. It has been a rough week. The grand baby is doing better too but still not eating much. He spots are beginning to scab over and she is no longer running a temperature. I am hoping she'll be able to return to school next week. I appreciate your help.

My husband caught them from our son, son had a very mild case while husband had a very nasty case...Dr wanted to put him in the hospital that's how bad it was. Dr went on to say that yes if you have a mild case as a child, you can get it again as an adult. Then went on talking about being from the same virus as chicken pox he could easily get shingles. I was hauling him to the office on a daily basis for about a week, I'm laughing now but we had to go in the back door to not expose anyone in the waiting room. At the time he was 34 yrs old.

Rather on the safe side, get Dang checked out by the doctor.

I appreciate the information...it has been quite an event in the household. He is going to the doc tomorrow so maybe they can give a little insight into it. He has kept a good sense of humor about the whole thing but I can't help chuckling just a little as I catch him counting spots. I think he has probably had a rather mild case...but I found a couple of suspicious looking spots on my arm this afternoon so he may get the last laugh...as usual :wink:

I am glad your family weathered it and that your husband is doing well.

Little consolation but his second round of CP is much more desirable than shingles(imho). I got shingles two weeks after a major knee surgery, left side/shoulder and arm, hurt like h*ll and left a few scars.

Wouldn't wish shingles on my worst enemy. :wink:

Mumps can be even more devastating to both youngsters and older folks . My great grandfather was totally debilitated in mid life
by them .
I contracted them in my 'tween' years and they 'dropped' on me before anyone sought medical attention . Two weeks bedfast with an icebag jammed between my legs saved enough for me to be able to father children . I was one of the fortunate ones .

Mumps both sides, Chicken Pox, 3 day measles Red Measles, German (Black Measles) ! Got all them childhood things early 60's Dr. Gibson came to the house with the little BLACK BAG and the great BIG needle shots in the bottom .... Oh how well I remember......

We are both mostly over them now and doing much better, but it has to be much easier getting them as a kid because it has really been rough on us since we are no longer spring chickens...LOL. I have never itched so much in my life...good night and praise calamine lotion

. I remember having the mumps but only on one side so I am gonna leave the country when the grandkids start getting that nasty little disease (although...they did get vaccinated for measles mumps and rubella) of course they were also vaccinated for chicken pox and I now see how well that worked...LOL. My husband was told by his co workers that he did not have the chicken pox because a second outbreak is now known as the swine pox. :wink:

Glad to say we are all doing well now....well except for "Spot" who is having surgery on his foot this Thursday. This little surgery is the result of his run in with the coffee table.....The table won. Two broken toes, two damaged nerves and a year later he is gonna have surgery to remove the two damaged nerves. He hasn't done much metal detecting this year because of the pain in his foot, but hopefully this will fix him up and he'll be back at it. You have a good one.

Prayers that the surgery for "Spot" comes out great with fast healing and he doesn't drive you to crazy and is back out detecting real soon ! He will be sooo happy and with out pain! :icon_sunny:

I'll keep you posted on "Spot's" recovery. Right now we are just waiting to get through the surgery on Thursday. We appreciate everyone's concern.
