I was told not to leave Treasure Magazines in Doctor's office.

I have been leaving Treasure magazines in my doctor's office for years knowing some people would enjoy the change of subject matter from all the womens mags they have. My thinking was that I enjoy the hobby and knew others would too. My doctor enjoys them so I have permission.

I get a note on my cars windshield telling me it is wrong to promote the hobby as there are, "Too many out there now finding all the stuff.",

My question is, is this the thinking by most people that there is to much competion out in the field?

I am new to the hobby myself... I was doing some research with my daughter for a school paper and happened upon a ghost town website. Ever since then I have been fascinated with the history in my area. I live in Northern Idaho, very close to the Washington border and there are many ghost towns in this area. I decided to get a detector to try my luck at "nugget shooting". Anyway, before I get too off topic here, I think more people in the hobby is a good thing as long as they understand that there are rules that need to be followed. More and more often now we find that people don't take the time to get the details right, and in this hobby that can spell the end for all of us.

Let more people in, but make sure they are well informed as to what is expected of them so we can all continue to hunt for our treasures!!

Yes I think there is too much competition in the water (at least in my area). I remember a post that you (sm) make recently that stated that in a certain lake that after a decent period of time you found no signals. Now as much as we like the outdoors to have to place our scoops near our coils just to make sure our machines are on takes the fun out of the hobby. Seems every week I see a hunter looking for a very limited amount of metal means less for me. If you guys say that you don't care to find treasure what would be point of being out there.
