The shape and mounting point look similar to a bayonet.

A bayonet stud is typically on the rifle, and a slot (Mortise) on the bayonet handle to accommodate the stud. Plus the stud looking piece on the OPs find would be too big to be a bayonet stud.

I'm not seeing signs of a socket, to imply it's a socket bayonet.

No suggestions as to what it is or was.

The veins or striations in the metal, leads me to believe the piece is wrought iron. While there were some bayonets that had wrought iron parts not many had a wrought iron blade.

Maybe it's just a very long paring knife?

Converted WWI or WWII Ross rifle bayonet.

Looks like a typical pocket knife with one end broken off.

What at first glance appears to be a fitting or part of a handle is just thicker metal.
The thinner area has corroded and fallen off to reveal a cleaner inner metal.
The thicker area is most likely closer to the original dimensions of the whole piece.

So-
It's a piece of metal, (probably wrought iron) used for something.

Any further than that is only conjecture.
