In Wisconsin?

Found this button at an old 1800's homesite in central Wisconsin. Can anyone help me with some info on what I have. Never thought I would have the opportunity in Wisconsin. Still pretty new to metal detecting, but I can' t get enough now. On cloud nine, love this hobby. Thanks for any info.

Awesome find! It’s Civil War. Someone else will be able to give an exact identification.

It could have been lost by a soldier/veteran when they returned home to Wisconsin after the war.

General service button I think in use from right before the civil war until the 1890’s. Some with the button book will chime in. Great find !!!!

I agree, its a Civil War General Service button. Neat find. The Civil War items have their way of getting around, as the Soldiers came from many states. About 3 years ago, my hunting partner found a rectangular C.S.A. buckle here in Illinois, in a farm field where there were no battles. They did come home after the war and lost items just like everyone else.

I agree that it is a General Service button and I will add that it was first issued in 1854. Wisconsin became a state in 1848 so it probably had soldiers stationed or living there. While it could have seen civil war service that is not guaranteed without any provenance. It is a nice button and in very good condition. I would be proud to own it.
