Had the most incredible day digging in the Fredericksburg area the other day. After not finding much things changed very quickly. Here are most of the finds from 1 trash pit minus some of the leather. Basically I was hunting a CW camp and had a pretty choppy signal after opening the hole signal got a little better. Down about 12 inches I saw the breast plate lying vertically and was pumped to have found that but then I noticed another shape under the breast plate and that was the US boxplate right under it. I then opened the hole and noticed leather fragments everywhere, the pin pointer and detector were screaming. I proceeded to save 5 box plates and 2 breast plates, tons of leather with hooks attached, scabbard tips, waist adjusters, iron buckles, 2 canteen spouts one with a name or carved initials, rivets, etc all in one small hole about 2 feet wide. Needless to say it was a day I will never forget. Just shows you there are still honey holes left so keep swinging. I feel so blessed to have been fortunate to save these pieces of history and certainly will be looking for more pits.

On behalf of all Archies out there, i must insist you put the items back in the hole just as you found them so that they might be properly excavated with proper documentation at a date never to be determined.
Grins...epic find indeed!:occasion14:

Killer find! The most impressive part is that you dug these and made it home without having heart failure. I cannot imagine finding that many Civil War goodies in one place!

You know...

I just have to add this...

If I was somewhere and ran into another detectorist... and we were talking about cool / great stuff found etc...

And that person said... "and yeah one time I dug 7 plates in one hole"...

I would think ... "your full of shhhhh".

heh

Again... well frigging done.

Holy Cow that is one best on t-net post on civil war boxplates ever.

That is not a relic magazine cover, it's a whole issue in itself. I was out of my mind happy when I found two buttons and a bullet in one hole. I would probably hang it up (NOT) after a find like yours, My banner vote is going in right now! Congratulations.

Holy ******* ****!!

I join the HOLY COW! crowd and my vote is in too!

Banner....exelent day G. Now go grab a sixpack and some scratchers!

My god man!!!! I’m a colonial lover but this is just incredible! It’s always exciting to see these great posts that blow your mind. So many people have this notion that “most” of the good stuff has already been found. It’s so far from the truth and we are often reminded that there’s mind blowing sites and finds yet to be uncovered. This is a wonderful reminder of the potential out there. A hearty congratulations on what is easily a BANNER worthy find and post. Well done man

Amazing finds and I am voting banner

BANNER - No brainer.

This is what I dream about in Civil War pit and hut digging and why I love that kind of digging more than anything! The pictures you have of them just dug have me salivating like a hound dog!
