Had the most incredible day digging in the Fredericksburg area the other day. After not finding much things changed very quickly. Here are most of the finds from 1 trash pit minus some of the leather. Basically I was hunting a CW camp and had a pretty choppy signal after opening the hole signal got a little better. Down about 12 inches I saw the breast plate lying vertically and was pumped to have found that but then I noticed another shape under the breast plate and that was the US boxplate right under it. I then opened the hole and noticed leather fragments everywhere, the pin pointer and detector were screaming. I proceeded to save 5 box plates and 2 breast plates, tons of leather with hooks attached, scabbard tips, waist adjusters, iron buckles, 2 canteen spouts one with a name or carved initials, rivets, etc all in one small hole about 2 feet wide. Needless to say it was a day I will never forget. Just shows you there are still honey holes left so keep swinging. I feel so blessed to have been fortunate to save these pieces of history and certainly will be looking for more pits.

Outstanding !! My banner vote is in.

PHENOMENAL! Congratulations! And of course banner!

Congrats on the great recovery. Vote already slotted in.

Hey man - As you know, I saw this on the (other site) post, and didn't know it was you! I have been hunting since the early 70s. I've seen a lot of incredible finds. I've seen some good trash pits too, but only ONE that could be considered possibly better than yours. For me, this is the best T-net post I have ever seen, and in the top two relic finds I've ever seen. It's not the number or value of the finds for me. It's the variety and the personal artifacts from NUMEROUS soldiers that does it for me. By the way, the only find that I liked as much as yours was many years ago - a guy found twelve plates in one hole at the base of a persimmon tree. This is the most obvious banner I've ever seen. My congrats and I'm on my way to you-know-where this weekend! Of course I'm joking. But I wish!

Thanks brother. Really appreciate the kind words and totally agree on the personal artifacts.

Now that's finding buried treasure banner

congrats on banner

Congratulations.
Not much left to say, all that in a smallish hole -To cool.

The only thing I can think of that's as hard (well maybe not "As Hard") is preserving all that Iron , Leather & making a Sweet display.
&
Like most others I dream of a Dig like that.

Plates Galore !!!

BTW You soil looks like Butter. 8-)

you call that a trash pit thanks for the great post

In case I didn't post before, what day is it? INCREDIBLE find. I can't remember anything like it since forever.

Took Longer than I thought it would but congrats on the banner! I am sure I don't have to tell you that there are more in the vicinity. Keep on Swinging that spot.

Niiice! I wonder if this was where the medics tossed the wounded solders’ clothing?

Absolutely incredible....
You should get a banner for each plate and buckle.... that’s it, have the whole collection up top...
Well done!

Holy smokes look at those eagles..........daaaaamn......what a hole......7!........you did it!

Wow! That is as deserving as they come. You probably just sold some detectors!

It's exciting as hell to find 1 plate, let alone 7....... Congrats! Got my banner vote!

I have a photo somewhere of about a hundred U.S. plates a guy dug once out of a hut pit a few years ago. It was some sort of supply hut and things like that is why hut digging is by far my favorite kind of relic hunting.

Congrats on the banner!

I'm wondering how they got there as well!

Were some union soldiers captured and the CS soldiers had them drop their emblems and such in a hole and bury them? Perhaps some soldiers went AWOL and hid anything identifying them? So Strange!
