Inline probe?

I never understood how these really work.

As far as I know it hooks in to your unit and serves as a pinpointer.....but how do you really use it.
Are they the thing to have Vs a handheld?

best thing about the dx-1 is u will NEVER lose it,probes 3-4 inches,luv mine.its got a switch on it that goes back and forth between coil or probe(i've lost my bullseye a few times)

Ahh, I take it you then do not need to remove the head phones either.
and does that mean it can detect through 3-4 inches of drit?

I have had this probe on my EXP II since I bought the detector about a year ago. When you flip the switch on the attached yellow box it essentially changes your coil to 1 inch coil. All your detector settings are the same as when you are using the detector’s attached primary coil. There are pros and cons.

Pro
Works exactly the same as your attached coil does
Never lose or forget to bring it as it is attached to the detector
Actually will detect up to 3 inches
Can use the pinpoint mode of your detector
No additional batteries required
Saves a LOT of time while recovering. More time for hunting

Cons
Reads from the sides just like most primary coils
Another cable wire (along with the headphones) to mess with
Every machine you have requires it’s own
Not cheap
Adds a little weight
Not really easy to switch to another machine even if compatible

All in all I would not leave home without it.

So in your opinion, its worth the price then Clifford? I like the idea of that change to 1" thing. I've practiced pinpointing with my XLT and its not always on. Only thing is that it only detects up to 3".

WolfmoonX it is more than worth the money. I don't know what I would do without it. I like my vibra probe with my X-Terra 70 but it can't compete with the X1

In my opinion, yes it is. It allows me to recover faster with smaller holes although I don't use it on every recovery. For those troublesome coins on edge that don't pinpoint exactly and for good targets that are in the hole next to trash/iron it's great.

Your remarks are right on the money. I have shied away form the Sunray probe. I did not like the extra weight. I thought maybe I would get one and make a belt pouch to hold it instead of putting it on the detector.

I've got a DX-1 on my MXT. I took it off to reduce weight lately and really missed it. It really helps when you pull a plug and can't find the target with your handheld. I've used it both alone and in combo with handheld on hunts.

If you get a Sunray, you may want to consider getting the alternate (box) mount to shift the center of gravity back a bit.

Have you actually held a detector with the probe attached ?

just curious, as the weight is a couple oz's at best.

I personally feel no difference in weight, & mine is the larger
older model.

Just curious, as I think you would be surprised how much
time they save.

Wolfmoon ; From what I'v been told from others, non of the
other probes can reach 3 to 4 inches. and from personal expierence,
with headphones on, and expierence with it.
if I switch to all Metal mode on my sovereign to probe, I can get alot deeper then 4" with it on relics Dollar size & larger.

Clifford ; the probe only detects from the Tip, on my Sovereign.

I used to have an Explorer XS & bought one for it.
I had the same problem you mention.
it detected all the way around, and all the way up the sides. when I stuck it in a hole, I couldn,t tell where the coin was with it.
I contacted Sunray & was told to Lower my Sensativity.
This did help. but I didn't like lowering my sens. to probe then raising it again to detect.
but my point is, it may be strictly the Explorer that has so much power it pushes the signal out the sides of the probe.

I use a Vibraprobe 560. They are around $100.00, waterproof but, only get about 3/4-1" depth. Not bad but wish it had a little more depth. HH, Mike
