Hi all!
I got a nicely intact parasol head, Probably the most popular 'Whatsit' :laughing7:
usually just the hub is found, this one had 14 inches of wood handle, most of it crumbled away on the ride home.
got a few small flat buttons, blank copper & an 86 Seated Dime.
I'm pleased with the small silvers that are turning up lately :hello2:
of course no hunt is complete without a spoon find.
Best digs to you all, I'm away for a couple days,
looking forward to seeing all your digs when I return!
HH,

Hey Herbie! :hello:

Very interesting finds!
Love the look of that parasol head!
It'll be interesting hunting this weekend with all the rain that's coming!

Dave

PS. Had to take my home computer in for service yesterday, we had virus on the hard-drive and they had to clear the memory. So, I temporarily created a "new account" (Weberman) until I get our computer back tomorrow.

Take care buddy,
Dave
Sorry to hear about the virus issue Dave :P
I hope that you can retrieve all your files :icon_sunny:
I have a fear of this happening to me, and I don't like the idea of offsite backup.
I transfer my new files onto a thumbdrive weekly, disconnect my internet, scan the
thumbdrive, write to a disc with an offline burner & then store a duplicate on an offline harddrive.
My CF card from the camera gets directly burned to disc with the offline burner, and then uploaded to a 2nd offline harddrive before I upload the CF card to my computer.
then I'll wait til it's time for the next upload, check for problems on the drives before rewriting the thumbdrives
Not a perfect method, but the best I can think of. I should be able retrieve everything from somewhere if my main drives were to be compromised.
I have 8 years of photos and documents I cannot afford to lose.
Best to you, and looking forward to seeing more finds!

That's for sure, I was using one yesterday.
For starters it Makes SO much sense that they delete the previous letter when you misspell, rather than delete forward as a PC does.
Just one thing I noticed ;D

Love to see pics of the spoon too. Looks pretty ornate.

And what about that 1886 Seated? Is it a half dime? Or do you have huge ... fingers?
Hi Tuberale,
Here's a pic of the 4 intact plated spoons I got in the last week,
(also dug 2 broken spoons & a fork), honestly, I'm a flatware magnet since the William IIIs
Below are 3 Rogers 1847s, I hate seeing that mark, they sound like silver, unlike most plates,
the bottom one has no name, just a mushroomlike stamp :icon_scratch:

Herbie,
Way to go! :hello2: As far as those parasol pieces go, you just found a banner. :laughing9: That is the most complete one I've seen, AND dated to boot! Nice find.

Gotta love Mary Poppins :laughing7:

Re: Best Parasol Piece yet !

You ARE a spoon magnet! And much better quality spoons than what I have found, too. Mostly we get junk stainless steel here on the upper left coast. Congrats and HH!

Re: Best Parasol Piece yet !

Fantastic Finds esp the Parasol Piece and thanks for the info on preserving the wood by soaking it in 50% water and 50% elmer's glue over night, good info there.

Re: Best Parasol Piece yet!

Got an update here,
took a while as I soaked these wood pieces to leach as much salt as possible.
The 'Pentacryl' as described and generously supplied by Creskol appears to preserve
old waterlogged wood perfectly.
several applications over the course of four days, then two more days of drying left the structure of the wood in as found condition.
Great product and many thanks Creskol :notworthy:
The 'Pestle' item had dried & shrunk before I knew of this product. I soaked it before treating in an attempt to reswell it, results weren't as good.
Also including a photo of other intact Parasol hubs still on their bases.
Thanks for looking & HH all

That is a very cool display piece! I am glad the product worked out for you.. Thanks for sharing the results.

thanks steelheadwill, I think I have one of those here somewhere. I thought it was some sort of through hull or grommet.
