🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Iron Buckle and Connector. Horse Tack?

Recently found on a wooded hillside near the remains of an old homesite. Buckle with tongue is 2" wide. Entire piece sticks to a magnet. Looks familiar but can't place it. Any ideas? Thanks.

Just a wag but I’m thinking it’s part of an old leather hood strap or latch.

I think it is a type of Horse Tack equipment (Harness types)
