The druzy I have appears to be dog tooth calcite, but it seems there is quartz druzy also? here are a few of my favorite pieces. Just thought I'd throw in # 3 for fun. looks like a castle turret.
Druzy refers to a fine micro-crystalline structure, and occurs in many minerals. The quartz (silica) druzys are the most sought after by jewelry designers and makers since it is the strongest and least likely to break or wear down due to the minor abrasion of everyday wear. Even so, it is best in necklaces since if used in rings or bracelets the chances of breaking or wearing down the tiny crystals is too great. The quartz druzys also come in many nice colors since the clear quartz crystals take on the color of the host stone. There is a lot that is dyed or titanium coated on the market, so one has to watch out when buying shaped druzy, if one likes the natural pieces.
