The ice cream man made for a real road hazzard around here back when they banned 'em around 30 years ago. Kids tended to get a lot less safe flying in to the street with those quarters and eyes fixed on the goodies. We've something akin to it again in the last couple years but I'm not sure just how much of what is there, none of it's in english.

When I was a kid most of us played in our backyards so the truck would go down the street music playin and bell rigin and he would go a couple of blocks then come up the alley, you had time to get some $ from the house and be at the gate when he got there and the parents heard him to not everyone was havin a TV on all day! It was nice.
