Came across this at a site today. Is this a cellar hole or foundation? Is it worth detecting? Property is 1700s.

The best way to answer the question is put your coil to the ground and find out.

Couple more shots. That guy was pissed I wasn’t a doe.

Nothing near that old in my part of the country, but hell yes I'd be detecting
around it! I'd probably come back with a shovel and do some digging in that
pit, as well.

Well. I found an old map of the site and this spot looks like some sort of out building.

Benny, where is the cellar hole in relation to the map?

I’ll be heading out there this week. The L-shaped piece is showing as cultivated land on the map and the little structure is right next to it (horizontal lines).

Maybe tobacco drying house if that cultivated crop is tobacco

Cellar Hole or a Well ?

Metal Detecting is a complex hobby that comes with a never ending learning curve - that's what keeps it interesting.
But there's one simple aspect - any area where there was human activity is worth hunting.
Just hunt the area and hope you get lucky !

Going to give it a shot. Just ordered a new detector which should be here early next week.

Good luck. I'd take the old detector that you know well along as well. If it's still working. Seems like from what I read here that each one has it's own kind of special sensitivity for certain materials.
Looking forward to the results of your search.

Is you send me the ADDRESS in a private message; I might be able to come there with one of my detectors and check it out and give you a determination if it is or not :) :)

Thanks for the offer Gare!
