Is This an Adze?

Looks like an ax that didn't get finished or they couldn't figure out how to get rid of the platform on the top.

A bit hard to see, but it looks as if the edge has been worked (chipped).

Is it flat on the other side?? Can we see a side and back pic of it?? Some super thick patina on that piece!

I call them hoes but who is to say they didnt use them as needed for the job at hand. It sure is a good looking artifact.

Here are pictures of both sides. I mistakenly typed adze in the heading but meant to type axe.

A cobble chopper that was hafted....

I don't have a clue, but it's a great find. Saw a photo of the Edgefield scraper I asked you about in a book by Max White. They must be rare. So many things I would have walked right by if I didn't go to these forums and try to learn something about artifacts. Now, if I could just get out metal detecting and artifact hunting, more than I do.

It was chipped to be hafted ,that's for sure JMO it could an unfinished axe or a hoe by the shape. It's a very good find:thumbsup:
