Is this half dollar an error? PICTURE!!

Hi all, I was date checking my half dollars and came across this 1981p half dollar. the coin itself is in great shape, blazing copper edge and undamaged back. The line running across the left portion of the coin is puzzling me, is this an error or is it someone's vandalism? Thanks all for the responses! hh!

That looks to me like a struck-through error, and a nice one at that. A piece of wire or something came between the planchet and the die when it was struck, creating the impression.

Definitely a keeper, though I couldn't put a value on it.

Fascinating how the indentation does not seem to affect the mint mark it appears to be running right through...hmm...

So this looks to be an error? here's the picture of the reverse, it looks to be undamaged, but might as well post it anyway!

In my opinion, yes, it's a struck-through error. It's actually a nice example, so I think it's collectible. Probably guys on a dedicated coin forum would be able to give you a better idea of the value and confirm that it's an error.

yup, it's an error. could have been a piece of thread of something that when it was struck it left that line through it. That's a nice one, I've found some decent struck through errors, but that one's pretty good. Keep it
