Is this what I think it is?And what model?

Found detecting here on the farm at an old homesite.Any ideas if it is an arm off a flintlock plate?If so can anyone identify what model ?

Definitely the cock of a flint lock. It looks too lite to be a military model. If it is a civilian model it could be one of any number of imports or made by some little gunsmith shop in the colonies / states.

Or a small caliber 'squirrel rifle' made by a local gunsmith . There were many like Hacker Martin that supplied the local populace with small caliber arms with no marks for an affordable price in a subsistence economy .

It looks very much like the hammer to an early US Model 1817 Springfield pistol. The early versions used the "gooseneck" hammer, later ones used the double strap type.

There is no way to tell what it is from, too many possibilities. It may be from a pistol but it is pretty big, more likely a rifle, fowler,trade gun. Flintlocks were being made right up through the 1800's but most likely 1800-1840. nice.
