I have a gold band (don't know if real). No gold content marking. Has mark on inside of band with a sideways capital W and then XXX. Can anyone help me?

I HAVE A BAND LIKE THIS TOO. THE W ACCORDING TO MY RESERCH IS FOR THE JR WOOD & SONS JEWELRY COMPANY OF BROOKLYN NY. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE XXX STANDS FOR, SO GOOD LUCK AND HOPEFULLY SOMEONE WILL RESPOND.

Interesting - as I have the same type - Mother told me that it had been her fathers but don't know what the imprint means

I also own a similar ring I inherited from my grandmother. After much research I have learned the sideways w stands for J.R. Wood and Sons Jewellers from New York City.

I just purchased a Gaelic Irish 14k wedding band with the same xxx with sideways W. I thought it might be an inscription but don't know. Have you found out what it means yet? Thanks!

Victorian c. 1900 Rose Gold Cigar Band Wedding Ring. Alternating panels of Leaf and Scroll design. Very light etched initials D C (not sure if it's a D). there is a mark inside "XXX with a sideways W".

Go to the link below to find your ring in their original catalog page. These XXX wedding bands are all "solid gold" which usually isn't 24K but 18K. Hope this helps. Mike

I have been researching this (trying to lol) and I saw the catalog he refers to but I cant find any mention that attributes this XXXW mark to J.R. Woods.

They do appear to use the sideways W, but what does the XXX mean?

Re: It looks like gold.... but... what does this hallmark mean ??

NOTE: According to Dorothy T. Rainwater's book "American Jewelry Manufacturers", the J. R. Wood Company was established in Brooklyn in 1850. After many years of jewelry making under that name, they merged into Lenox, Inc. [Keepsake Division] Trenton, New Jersey in 1970. Their wedding rings were sold under the trade name 'Art-Carved'. In 1975, the name of the company was changed from "J. R. Wood" to "Art-Carved Inc." Marks used by the Wood Company can be seen on page 260 of this marvelous reference book.
Anyone have this book might have the mark you're looking for ? ?
I checked my book I found the name, address, and the sideways W

ya my buddy Chris found a beautiful men's wedding band with the same xxx and sideways W on the inside i think the 3 x's are the gold content in this case 18kt . he had his checked out by a jeweler and it was indeed 18kt rose gold probably mid to late 1800's . hope this helped.

I have that exact ring. The very thin one. I think it was my great grandmothers or grandmothers? What do you know about it? I would never give it up b/c I love it, but am curious as to is maker (JR WOOD & SONS) content and value.

Guys, This has been very helpful I had found this ring while digging in 2013 and had put it in with the rest of my stuff to I.D. later. I didn't think it was gold because all I could find was the xxx with a sideways w. Now I have it Identified and this will be my first gold that wasn't plated. I'm pumped. Here is a picture of my ring.

@Ieddel I think i might have the female version of your ring. It has the exact anchor looking carvings in the rose gold with 3xxx inside the ring. My grandma gave me this and just told me it was very old and that she got it from a flea market back in 1940 for $23! If you can please tell me more about it id be so thankful!
