It's not what you find but how you find it.
Spent the day metal detecting today with my father. Since the ground has thawed and the brush is low we figured it was the perfect time of year to hit some spots in the woods that we've been eye balling. My father had seen this old foundation off a dead end country road so we decided to check it out and see what we could find. There was of course a load of iron signals all over the area but when I scanned the walls of the foundation I got a pretty good signal in between a couple of the stones. My father very carefully dislodged a small stone and then was able to pull out one of the larger flat stones right where the signal came from. As soon as he got it out we both noticed this nice old flat button just laying right on top of the stone where it probably has rested for the last 200 years or so. It has a "London" backmark and a plain face, not the greatest find ever but it was a pretty neat way to find it.
We got one other small button right in the same area and then found nothing for the rest of the day. Some days it's not about the finds, it's just about getting out and enjoying yourself.
