Ill bet that gave off a big signal.

Hahaha!!! I bet it would have! No, it was handed down from my father. Someone gave it to him and he said it was a John Deere. I'm not finding any identification on it except a little green paint in one area. Does have part #'s on it.

I think Creskol is on the right road. Deere model 999? Apparently they made those for over 25 years (1913 - 40).

Looks like this one is missing quite a lot.

I'm not sure what model planter you have, but if it's a 999 here's a picture of one restored, the picture I know will not be much help due to it's small size, but I thought I would post it anyway.

You may try contacting this website to see if maybe they can get you a manual/parts book and or help with an ID of your planter.

Tractor Manuals - Service, Repair, Operator and Parts Manuals

Here's a interesting piece, brass salesman's sample, there is a total of 10 images of this piece on the website that may help give you some insight as to what all is missing on your piece...

Here's another site you may want to contact to see if they can help you with IDing your planter and or get you a copy of manuals, etc., they have a completely restored 999 with a copy of the assembly manual and parts book for sale.

Not sure if this number is any good, I found it posted dated 2001, but it's for John Deere Publishing which may help with getting manuals and assembly info, etc.

Edit: I just checked online and that is the current phone number for John Deere Publishing, and here's a link to their website.

You might have luck taking a good pic of the seat. There was quite a market for them in the 70's/80's. The seat might be identifiable. Good luck.

I like helping TNet members ID old things. I find it much easier to use "Google Images" and using the words vintage or antique in front of the subject I'm searching for. Here's my results looking for this vintage corn planter.

35727.jpg corn%20planter.jpg corn-planter.jpg These were found here vintage corn planter - Google Search

11-23-11-deere999.jpg This one was found by typing in "Vintage Model 999 John Deer Corn Planter" vintage corn planter - Google Search

Hope this helps!

Sorry for the delayed response! Thanks everyone for pics and info. Really helped us out!! What year do you think this could be? So the colors would be yellow and green?

If you don't mind me asking, are you located close to Arkansas? I inquire because I know someone who is a serious collector and restorer of antique tractors in southeast Arkansas. He would be able to answer any questions about it.

We are having a difficult time finding this model on the Internet. Does anyone have any knowledge of this planter? McCormick Deering, John Deere or Moline Plow Co.? I do believe its missing parts. We are wanting to restore it. We've been searching the Internet for 2 hrs and we are tired!!!!!! Thank you so much!

The pictures you have posted is of an old John Deer pull behind. I just purchased one like it this past weekend and it still has the original John Deer logo on the side and the cast lids on the seed hoppers. Mine is exactly like yours with the differential on the front seed drive bar and the rear wheel scrapers.

It is probably a Deere (not John Deere). There were several planters at that time that looked exactly alike, Deere, sattley, Moline etc. The correct color was Red for the chassis and yellow for the wheels. Tony
