Johnson Island Confederate Cemetery

Nice story Wrightdigger. So many sad stories came from the CW time period......on both sides. Mr. Hamilton well deserves the right to be remembered as all those veterans do. Something that is never discussed much are the CW P.O.W. prisons. It seems the only one talked about is Andersonville Prison. It was indeed a terrible place, but in my opinion not out of hatred or deprivation to the prisoners there, but out of lack of medical supplies, food, and clothing. The Confederate guards there at the prison were dying from the same diseases that the prisoners were dying from. Not to trivialize this at all, but the long story short, was that all these prisons were terrible for both sides. Your research and story here was appreciated. All these men and the women on the home front alike deserve the right to be remembered. Some folks are trying their dead level best to remove all our History, Monuments, and anything that don't fit in to their agenda while pointing fingers and calling others Nazi's and facists. If these folks want to really see these monsters, they need to look no further than a mirror.

That is indeed something to remember our ancestors and the sacrifices they endured for the very freedoms that we enjoy today. The Native Americans have a very proud Heritage. They were the First Americans here. If any group or race of people in this country have a right to complain about the way their race was and is treated, it would be the Native Americans. I salute your ancestor, Mr. Hamilton and for standing for what he believed to be right. As long as we remember all our ancestors, they will remain with us and be a part of us.

Wrightdigger. Outstanding work. Your project is worthy of honerable mention. Thank you.
