went hunting for the first time in almost 2 decades today. It was a wonderful 38 degrees and most ground was still froze here. I found bottle caps, a broken pin( gold plate) melted aluminum and a big chunk of something. Any ideas on the big grey lump?

Looks like a piece of fried chicken poking out of alluminum foil.

does anyone have any real ideas? It has some weight to it and is magnetic.

Did it come out of the ground like that, or did you clean it up? Meteor maybe? Usually rusted when it comes out of the ground! Not for sure just a guess.

it was sitting on top of the sand, near the edge of the river. there's some rust on it but not much.

Is the inner material pliable?
It looks kind of like spray foam insulation.

no, it's solid. like i said, it has some weight to it. probably about 1-2 pounds. and magnetic so it has some iron to it.

slag like from a blast furnace.

you're probably right, come to think of it. it's flat on the bottom like it was poured out. I'm just wondering what it was doing at a beach on the mississippi.
