You have to slow down on the muscles as even the Lesche can throw dirt in your eye. The one I use might be sold at Lowes too and I also use a bayonet to stick in the rings of pull tabs.

Garden trowels won't cut it. The Lesche is what I use where there are roots. In parks, as you note, where a knife shape freaks out the over-protective moms I use a tool I bought from Trans-Mississippi Electronics (P.O. 582312, Tulsa, OK 74158-2312 918-832-8064). Unfortunately, I believe the number is no longer in service.

This turns a deep plug and by cutting a flap it disappears when you put the dirt back. Park maintenance worker approved (last photo shows the hold filled and the divot replaced).

Nice job on the plug! I've used many trowels, the Lesche is the best IMHO. :tongue3:

Thanky. When the grounds crew is happy everyone is happy. Who do you think calls the police in 95% of the problems in parks and schoolyards?

The Lesche M85 is the quality standard of digging tools. When I might need to work around large or small roots that is my first choice. I also have a Lesche/Predator Hercules relic shovel for "heavy duty" work where invisible holes are less critical (like in the woods behind my house). But where folks are around that Trans-Mississippi tool is the cat's a$$. Does not look like a weapon and is strong as can be. Three quick jabs, a flip, one more jab and I have a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" x 9" deep hole if the ground is soft.

Been using the saber tooth diggers for 10 years. Cheap and strong as hell. We've used them in frost, to pry rocks, and have never broke one. I'm good at losing them so the $15 doesn't set me back like a pricey digger would. Having said that, if I like any $50 digger out there better I'd buy one, but I don't.

I bought the Lesche after reviews on here, and I have not ONCE ever regretted it.... I think I paid $49 bucks for it, which included the sheath... You may be able to break them, but as hard as I have tried in some pretty hard ground, I havent even come close to bending it.. It is truly an amazing example of a perfect tool.
