I like to dig the old stuff, like 18th century old, so Saturday I took a drive to one of my farm permissions to see if all the snow and cold we had this winter had knocked the vegetation down in one particular field that is normally pretty overgrown. This place had been hunted by myself and others over the years, and I wasn’t sure if there was anything left. I was happy to see that the weeds were flattened down, and where there was grass, the cows had done their job and kept the grass low. I ended up with 6 buttons, 2 coppers, 2 shoe buckle pieces, and a musket ball. I was hoping for a Spanish silver since I did get one here years ago, but no such luck this time.

Here is the group shot

I have been on a streak of digging crappy coppers, and the two I dug this hunt were pretty crappy, but at least I see a faint bust facing right on both.

Here is a picture of the cellar hole I was digging around.

I like seeing a shiny tombac button in the dirt. Five of the six buttons were tombacs. When you're digging tombacs, you know you're on 18th century dirt.

One of the coppers centered in the plug

That's all I got folks, thanks for looking!

I'd say that was a pretty good day Steve. Nice finds.

You dig 1700’s dirt like I dig 1950’s.....
Congrats on the coppers and stuff.

Those tombacs get your heart pumping for a moment, cool finds. Congrats!!

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Looks good to me. Save some for me when I get back to Pa in May.

If you don't think it was a good day. Just take a peek at my last few posts.

Bull ring!?!? Indeed! :BangHead:

I did a little work on the two coppers and brought out the profiles a little better. I believe they are both counterfeit KG3, but the busts are different.

Great Saves, Looks like a good day for me. Last weekend dug up 13 shot gun shells, 3 buckshot, 1 birdshot, one flat button, little knee buckle two pieces pewter that may have been a button....

Nice hunt there Steve. I love being on sites like this and we know that next find could be something spectacular !

One on the right looks like it might be a Connecticut variant ????? Nice job!!! Coppers are flyin’ out of the ground this year

Lots of coppers coming up this spring! I'd say those are great finds AND fancy...

Thanks. I was happy to be digging 18th Century targets at a fairly consistent rate.

Congrats on the coppers and stuff.
Thanks BWD. I know you are surrounded by old dirt down there :laughing7:

Thanks Thad. They don't fool me though. Numbers are too low for silver, but they sure look good.
Nice!!! Congrats!!!
Thanks RJ

Thanks Keith. I did get one piece of Spanish silver out of this place years ago. I'm hoping to get back one more time before things grow up too bad.

Thanks. Could be. I'll have to take a closer look.

Of the five coppers I've dug this year, these are the two best if that tells you anything. Nothing like the ones you're digging :notworthy:

I’d like to find a copper to go
With my buttons. Nice finds.

Cellar hole hunting is the best - congrats on the finds !
