I like to dig the old stuff, like 18th century old, so Saturday I took a drive to one of my farm permissions to see if all the snow and cold we had this winter had knocked the vegetation down in one particular field that is normally pretty overgrown. This place had been hunted by myself and others over the years, and I wasnโt sure if there was anything left. I was happy to see that the weeds were flattened down, and where there was grass, the cows had done their job and kept the grass low. I ended up with 6 buttons, 2 coppers, 2 shoe buckle pieces, and a musket ball. I was hoping for a Spanish silver since I did get one here years ago, but no such luck this time.
Here is the group shot
I have been on a streak of digging crappy coppers, and the two I dug this hunt were pretty crappy, but at least I see a faint bust facing right on both.
Here is a picture of the cellar hole I was digging around.
I like seeing a shiny tombac button in the dirt. Five of the six buttons were tombacs. When you're digging tombacs, you know you're on 18th century dirt.
One of the coppers centered in the plug
That's all I got folks, thanks for looking!
