I travel a lot for work and stopped by a couple of banks on the way to the airport. One of the banks, a BOA had $390 in cwr halves. The teller said a man had received them as joke for Christmas. Something tells me they are dumps and the joke will be on me, but I figured why not? I also got a box of dimes just in case!

I had stopped at the other bank the last time I was in town and the same surly teller plopped out three rolls of halves, the same amount she gave me last time. Those rolls produced a 1963 Ben. Not sure why she is so tight with the halves, since she had a tray full, but I didn't push it.

Needless to say the TSA took my bags apart. I just hope the overhead bin doesn't break due to the weight :)

I will post results later.

haha i took 5000 loose pennies from two boxes i searched in california through the airport to ohio and man did they search the hell out of my bag for about 20 minutes. they just show up as a soild mass blocking everything in the x-ray. but they never asked me why i had them and then they just let me go through

Lol. I did that with $120 halves once. That was back in Feb 2008 when you could find CWRs in many banks. At the end of my business trip I had a couple hours to kill so I asked the hotel chauffeur (complimentary service) to drive me to nearest bank. In the bank I bought twelve rolls and found 1 64 and 7 40%ers.

Re: Just took $670 in coin through airport security - update

SKUNKED... on everything.

Who ever dropped the coins off took the time to load each end of the half dollar rolls so that the obverse of Kennedy was showing. Wonder the reason? He/She marked each tail feather on every coins. I wish I had that much time on my hands!

TSA- "Excuse me sir, do you have any metal on your person, your pants are sagging and pockets are jingling. I think I'm going to have to pat you down. Say, is that a roll of half dollars in your pocket?"
wish I saw there faces, also glad I wasn't standing behind you in line, lol

I had $100 in dimes and $80 in halves in my carry on from SF to Denver. No one batted an eye fortunately although I was expecting the worst.

I plan on doing it again. I warned the agents that there was rolled coin in the luggage, but the one lady refused to listen and yanked the bag off line. Needless to say it landed on her foot. I felt bad, but she laughed it off. I am sure they see much more interesting things than rolled coins in carry on bags :)
