Just wonderin', anybody encountered something like this?

I found this on my property in Licking County Ohio (about an hour away from Flint Ridge, Ohio). Over my years here I have uncovered many small arrowheads (some intact... some not), but nothing this large until now. It is large & weighs about 5 lbs. Any guidance will be much appreciated. Thanks.

well i hate to disagree with the masses but that is a blank, they would wear themselves out using that to scrape hides

well, yea. Maybe a big tool like that did the heavy hacking. The percise scraping would obviously be done by smaller more fine instruments.

It's kind of funny that a hoe was brought up again. When I had originally posted the similar one in the link above, Treasure_Hunter suggested possibly a hoe.

Rewind to when I found it... I found this sticking up about one inch from the pine needles and dirt. It was under a cedar bush and the only ray of light peeking through the branches was shining right on it. I dug it out all covered in dirt and didn't realize what I had other than it was an interesting rock... I continued hiking and was digging around in some accumulated sand in between some sandstone spires using this rock as a hoe! I found 2 spent cores and a 2 pecking stones using it as a hoe, not even knowing what I had found. I got back to the truck and washed it off with some water and when I saw the color and all of the pressure flaking around the edge I was sure glad I didn't break it!

scrape a lot of hides do ya?

pretty big for a blank i would hate to carry even 4 of those, gut says flint hoe preform, idk tough one

maybe they had big plans for it.....4x5=20...you can't carry 20 lbs? I can carry 20 pounds all day long in todays heat. the only way that could be a flint hoe is in preform that is a possibility,I have lots of stuff that was abandoned (for whatever reason) midway through making it. Its possible it could be a hide scraper, but i think its a quarry blank . Someone said it was worked too much to be a blank but its worked exactly how i would expect to see a blank. from the picture it looks to me to have sharp edges around, if those edges are crisp with no abrasion, polish or chopper etc use then its a blank. might even call it a cache blade.

actually after looking at it again it does appear to have some chopper end use, closest thing to call it then would be crude flint hoe.

wait thats one of them flint chopper hoe quarry blank preform cache blade chopper celts

SOHIO, your meds man, your drifting! Lol, just messing with ya!

Nice find. I would call it a hoe/preform blank. Get the shovel out, and dig about a foot down in a 3 foot area to make sure its not part of a cache. Thanks for the pic.
