I got out today with Buckleboy and Diggergirl for a 5 hour hunt. Dug the 1900 O mintmark Barber dime that appears to have been lost when brand new. It was very lucky to have not sustained any plow damage as coins we dig in the sugarcane and bean fields often do. But my BEST find EVER, a Kentucky Military Institute button. When it came out the ground i assumed it was a civilian button but when I got it home and began tooth picking I noticed the two persons standing and the letter
"M" between them. I tried a Google search but came up with nothing then got the Tice book out and started flipping pages. I almost fell out the chair when I got to the "Buttons Of Various States" section, tuned to page 285 in the Kentucky section and saw my button there! KYS275A1.
Per the advice of Buckleboy I will seek to have the button restored. I will post pictures after this is completed. Cheers! Shanegalang, The Canefield Bandits!
P.S Also pictured are a couple of wheat cents, some flat buttons, a CW era pistol bullet, some pack studs and other misc. finds.

wow, really awesome! can't wait to see the button restored and the barber looks sweet too. congrats

WTG Shane!! The K.N.I'.s are scarce buttons. Nice dime too. BB already called & told me you had dug a button with a "M" and people shaking hands. I knew exactly what it was as did he. BTW, Doug has a new joke for you-LOL. Congrats, Q.

Can't wait to see your button restored!
Your dime in XF goes for $225.........not too shabby!!
You had a great hunt!

Iowa Dale

Good stuff ! The coin is EF details easily - a few minor blemishes, but a really nice semi key coin !

Nice going Shane! I guess there wasn't any retribution for the " gold " coin then? You did check that dime to make sure there wasn't any bubble gum in the center, right? Please do post pics of that button when restored 'cause that is a great find!

Very nice KMI button. That is a pretty rare find and unusual for LA. Congrats on a great find.

That KMI button is a Great find and a very Sweet Barber too.

Great Saves, Bill

Great digs shane, of course the barber is great, but that button is incredible, looking forward to the restored pics

Congratulations on the hunt! That dime has great detail and that button is awesome.

Love the button. My Dad was KMI class of 1931, so it rates as a SUPER find in my books. Congrats! Were you hunting the original KMI site (Lyndon, KY), I believe????

Damn, you are one lucky SOB. The ONE hunt my trusty F75 is gone to be upgraded. When I get that detector back and put the coil to the Louisiana Soil, it's "Game On," buddy! :D I still can't believe you dug a KMI down here. I tried hard to find one of those for 15 years when I lived in the Bluegrass State--and no luck!
