Killed by a drunk driver

Hello, everyone,

Last Wednesday night, my 11-year old niece Nima Gibba was one of 4 people killed by a drunk driver. The man was going 70 mph in a built-up neighborhood with blood-alcohol level of .21 (level of illegal in Oregon is .08) He hit the vehicle so hard that all 7 airbags inflated, but then they deflated and the vehicle hit a telephone pole, which killed 4 people instantly and left another one brain-injured and comatose. Nima was being driven to her home by her dance teacher, who also died in the crash.

Nima, who wanted to be a doctor someday, was at our home on Monday, where she showed us her newly-developing clarinet skills and played some games of "speed," her favorite card game. When she left our home, we had no idea that we would never see her again. We are going to say goodbye to her on Wednesday.

What a senseless, useless waste of a beautiful and promising life.

Mike and Just...I am so sorry for you loss. Most families these days are touched in much the same way as yours. I lost one of my cousins to a drunk driver but she didn't have the forethought not to get in a vehicle with him. Also a slap on the wrist for him too. I am still a state trooper but now I don't have to make visits to mothers and fathers homes, mostly late at night or early mornings with news of a loss of a child. Was one of the hardest parts of my job. Your families will be in my prayers. God Bless.
