Found my oldest coin today , 1737 King George II Farthing ! I detected for a few hours at the homesite of a Rev War Officer, the property is still an active horse farm , lots of trash. I did make a few decent finds though ! A very well preserved flat button , I think the back marks say Lillington/ Gilt, a plain horse rosette and I believe the buckle is some type of strap buckle. Very tough digging! :happysmiley:

I just measured the coin , it's 1 1/4 inch so it's a half penny

That's a handsome one, nice find!!!

Thanks !

That is a great looking coin! Lots of detail and the soil was kind to it.

Nice one! ....but is a Halfpenny and not a Farthing.

Love the Colonial finds!

Beautiful coin from the 1700's ... I can only imagine what it is gonna be like if I would ever pull a beaut like that out of the ground .. My sincere congratulations JM1184

You did VERY well!
Be proud!
Excellent condition, that Farthing!

Is it !? I'm no expert, how can I distinguish them ?

A farthing would be about half cent size. A halfpenny is about the size of a large cent. Nice Coin! The date is very clear. Definitely a bonus.

I measured it , it's about 1 1/4 inch so half penny

Can't beat those old colonial coppers. That one's got a strong date. Bottom of the dates of most of them are about gone making for a difficult date to read....not that one!

YA' PUT A WHUPPIN' ON THAT DIRT. MY 1734 (4 OVER 3) half penny WAS NO WAY AS NICE AS YOURS----oops, caps lock. mega nice buckle too!!

Dang, really good KG you snagged there.

Wow! That is one incredible KG. Love the color on that one.

Wonderful KG2 with great patina and solid date. Congrats on that one

That coin is in amazing condition-congratulations
