After working a big section out back that I mowed where an old chickenouse/workshop once stood and recovering a couple of bucketfuls of junk on Saturday, I decided to hit a County Park today in search of coin & jewelry today.
The park has soccer matches all weekend and also hosts a couple of annual festivals. The consensus was that it doesn't get too mutch detector activity. I started early, but soccer folks were already arriving and setting up so I took the sidelines on an empty field and started hitting clad right away. By the end of the sideline I got a big +91 on the XLT and it seemed odd; as in too big. I cut out a 6" x 6" plug and swept it again and it was ringing like Christmas. I ended up pulling 16 clad quarters from 1980's to 2001 and one Canadian Quarter from about 3.5" to 5" deep. Some pocket drop!
The rest of the day was spotty, buty satisfying even though I didn't get any nice jewelry or silver. I took my old dog Ernie and he got a couple of breaks in the dog park to socialize a bit, but the rest of the time he stayed in the car while I MD'd.
I met a fellow who rode over to me on his bike who said he used to sell Garrets and another brand that I never heard before (can't remember the name). He was toting a detector with a BH coil. He also had another coil and other parts tied to the back of the bike for spares. He was looking for a ring in the play area for someone, but hadn't found it yet. We had a long conversation. He did most of the talking, but I was glad to listen. He's 91 years old!
It was a great day.
I think the big round relic is a wheel from on old toy car or truck. It had a little black paint on it.
