Knife or preform? From Illinois

Hi all
If you had to guess, is this a knife or preform? Flaking is decent and quite thin.
From northern Illinois. Perhaps woodland?
Looks like chert-perhaps heat treated?
Any ideas are appreciated.

These were found next to each other-it was repaired.
All are of the same artifact.

I would say you have a preform. I find a lot of them here in Boone county Illinois.

Whether it be knife or preform, are these representative of any specific era?

Just my 2 cents worth, your piece appears either to be a natural large flake off of a chert nodule that has been worked a bit on two ends for cutting and hafting, or an older artifact that was recovered and reworked. If that was the case the more patinated surface in the middle is nodule cortex, or it isa much earlier worked surface.
