Lady liberty shot dead. I have proof.

Found my first V nicklel today, an 1895. Problem is someone shot lady liberty in the head, cracking the coin. My wife found a hollow point bullet about 50' from where I found the nickel. You can see a ring in the coin from where the a bullet, a hollow point hit it. Think it's possible that this is the offending bullet?

Usually coins don't crack when shot, but bend. I used to have a seated dime that my dad gave me which had been shot with a .22 rifle around 1900. It was bent pretty severely. I have shot a few pennies (back in the '60s) and they also bent. we placed a lot of coinage on railroad tracks and marveled at how large they would become when flattened.

If you want really smashed flat, place in a dollop of grease.
Copper smashes nickel tears or cracks.

Someone finally shot her? I guess it's not surprising, because I always thought she was a bit of a "crack head."
