Large brass item, what is it?

dug this in a field last week, what is it? any ideas? appears to be solid brass

I agree. Look like part of an old one way check valve. Some part of a water pump.

Im assuming the center piece moves up and down. Can you tell us the patent date on the bottom (top)? FEB 2 1916? (PAT..FEB2. 16)

Looks more like a emitter.Mabe for irrigation with the piece in the middle looking like it's made to devert water.Could be of a sprayer pulled behind tractor Also I guess.If it's a old farm field your speaking about.If just a field then it might be some kind of fire sprinkler.

I never even saw that date until u mentioned it!!! It is scratched right across the date but looks like feb 2 16, or maybe 18, hard to tell with scratch

Being brass for long life in water and threads look NPT, I'd say check valve or foot valve, whichever you wanna call it.

It appears to be 2 patent numbers.
