I turned up on one of the newly harvested wheat fields only to find him raking it into an unworkable state. Therefore I rushed to the area he had not done & began working the stubble just one length from the tractor. I was doing the bottom section so I managed to keep ahead of him. Within 2.5 hours the game was over. This proves why time is not on my side when UK searching, this field was stubble for less than 2 days!

This is what I had (on my own today):

Complete ringing Crotal Bell (2 weeks ago I said to Romeo that its been a while since I had a whole one) ;D
Bronze foot to a medieval cauldron
My first Victorian Royal Engineers Button (I have many WWI & WWII types) - bonus is its undamaged with loop :)
Plus a button type I have never seen - Bird, anchor & crown. If its a Livery it must have Royal connections, if its military Navy or Merchant Navy then I can't find a parallel. :icon_scratch:

Re: Last chance on a stubble field....

Tough on the short window of opportunity. Still got some really cool finds. Is that a bird leg band in the upper left corner of the picture?

Keep 'em coming.

Re: Last chance on a stubble field....

Nice finds for 2.5 hours. Good looking mystery button - the HMS Raven perhaps.

Even though I grew up in the country we obviously farm a bit differently down here than in England. Can you explain why raking a field would make it unworkable for detecting? Here after the crop is taken off, the paddock is raked with a hayrake and then due to our long hot summer, livestock let in to graze the stubble down. Does raking mean something different in the UK?
