Got out to my favorite site a couple of times this week. The finds are really starting to dwindle down so I was digging a few more iron signals. The best of these two iron signals turned out to be a nice old lock with the "patent" lock cover piece still intact, and a very old pocket knife (mostly rotted away) Anyone who might be able to narrow down the age of either item I would greatly appreciate it. I also found two colonial buttons, one of which has a nice "John Robinson Extra Rich" back mark. A toasted, holed indian head penny also showed up late in the hunt.

This lock is a great example of what this "patent" piece is. I found another one at this same site but several hundred yards away from this lock.

I hunted a little bit today as well. As I said before I was digging alot of iron. The only keeper I came away with today was this tiny axe head. Can anybody estimate the age of this piece?

Thank you for the reply Mr. Pappagiorgio. The relics associated with the area that this axe head was found date from the late 1700's - mid 1800's. I can't be sure but I'm guessing it's no newer than that.

Evo,

You are due for a coppa soon, buddy! That axe head is about as old as mine...late 18th century to early 19th.

We know the date of OUR relics, since most of the artifacts in the area are no later than 1830.

Rob, keep your Super 12 coil sweeping with the Colonial fever!

Hey, Rob Dude, it is good to see you getting out and hunting with the Colonial fever. Even though no coppas or Spanish wilvers surfaced during the hunt, you were still able to recover some nice buttons and a nice 18th century axe. You, my good Colonial-seeking buddy, are bound to strike some of those "greenies" very, very soon!

Thanks for the reply Kirk. You had a good day in the field bud. Hopefully that soybean field is harvested next week for you guys.

Thanks Kyle. Those coppas are certainly making themselves scarce around these parts. Hopefully I'll get one next time out.
