Hey Guys. Glad I could finally get back on to TNET. My computer was attacked by a massive virus a couple of weeks ago :o >:( >:( and I thought I had fixed it last weekend only for it to kick back up so I had my computer guy WHIP it into submission :whip2: :whip2: update and repair it so I'm FINALLY able to post last Friday's (New Years Eve) finds and my finds from yesterday (first hunt of 2011). :hello2: :hello2:

Anyways, I'm happy to finally get the opportunity as I went back to one of my woods sites that has produced and produced some great stuff over the years. This area saw ALOT of Colonial and Civil War action so the stuff ranges from the 1600s up to the Civil War and is an absolute DELIGHTFUL place to dig everytime! I've been wanting to get there for a few weeks but with Christmas and the Snow, New Years Eve was the first opportunity that I had to make it happen. I decided to take the T-2 Limited out and before too much time, started racking up on musketballs and Minies even a spare Sharps. I had near 4 hours to burn and THEN got a LOUD DEEP signal...and was VERY happy how this hunt turned out. Too bad I couldn't have found this the next day then I would've been able to mark it off the list for the whole 2011 season :-\ Oh well Dang the luck ;D
Yesterday I went back out and dug ALOT of bullets, a nice gilted Navy Kepi and a SPENT and I MEAN SPENT! Connecticut Copper :'( :'( :icon_thumleft: When Wet you can see the "ORI" and CON" at the top of the copper.....really a bitter-sweet find but not unhappy at all! Thanks for looking guys and glad to be back after a couple weeks hiatus!

Here's my day of diggin' and finds:

I love hunting woods, with the vast majority of my finds having come from woods. Also with woods hunting, there's usually very little modern trash, so when you get a nice 5-6 inch signal you know you're going to dig something old. Congrats on the finds, especially the Breast Plate. Long Island woods are almost as old as Virginia woods, but you have the advantage due to your Civil War history. There was very little military activity on Long Island, besides the Battle Of Long Island (which was in Brooklyn), and some small skirmishes during the Revolution. So I consider myself really lucky to have dug the circa 1815-1825 Militia Belt Plate a few years ago. Keep on hitting that site, especially the harder areas (brambles, fallen logs, ect.) and don't forget to bring your coil right up to around the small and large tree trunks. You'll be amazed how long you can continue to hunt a site you thought you hunted out. I can only imagine how much land you have to hunt down there.

Put it this way I've been hunting this site for about 4 years and never leave empty handed  ;D

Wow! After seeing this post, I looked through your previous finds and I am floored. I have been addicted to Virginia history for years now and to see what you have been pulling out of our soil gets my blood pumping. Can't wait for your next post :icon_thumright:

Thanks Joey. The key is just getting out there non-stop and digging every single chance you get. That's how you find the good spots and how you mark ALOT of not-so-good spots off the list. You live in the same area as me=a great area!.. so just start getting out and hitting different properties and before long I will guarantee that you'll have you a few Confederate Buttons and Spanish Silver, if you stay dedicated and keep at it continous, it WILL come! :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:

Nice finds Josh.... LOOKS LIKE YOU HAD A GREAT HUNT.

Those are some super, Killer finds! I love the mix of early relics like the copper and especially the spur buckle, along with the great CW stuff. That's a nice breastplate! Seems like a lot of the ones dug these days have the rust on the front from the iron attachments. Looks better than alot I've seen--no rim damage and no plough. :headbang:

Can't believe I missed this post earlier. :sad5:

Thanks Will. I really liked that little spur buckle too, a nice little surprise. Yeah, unfortunately with the Breastplates, the Iron that runs through the lead does rust through the Brass face on alot of them but at least it didn't take out the face/head of the eagle. The place I was hunting was in woods that have never been plowed hence the good condition of the plates that come out of here. The other Eagle Breastplate from a couple years ago was in even better shape than this one. :)

:o Man, nice pics and hunt!
