LATEST DIGS: 1853 Seated Quarter, Bullets (Merrills, Sharps, Minies) and More!

{Sentinel} · Jun 27, 2011

Hey Guys....Well this was my last trip out and I got some keepers! Including a couple handfulls of Bullets and a Nice 1853 Seated Quarter. In addition I got a nice

brass tag with the word "Erie" on it. I dug this up in the Civil War campsite where the rest of this stuff come from. It could be related to the G.A.R. i.e. a delegation tag of some

sort...I've seen State Delegation Tags and have also seen city/regional variations as well. This being said, it could just as easily be related to something else as well.

I Also added some more photos of myself, Rob aka RTDE 3 and James Bibb to the post. James I'm deeply sorry and upset about your loss buddy. Here's the photos without further

adieu: Thanks for looking my friends :occasion14:

Fresh from the Pouch:

1853 Seated Quarter *Uncleaned*

1853 Seated Quarter *Cleaned* (Left some patina on the face as well as the Reverse with original patina)

Reverse:

Pretty designed Thimble

Group Shots: Bullets include: Miinies, Musketballs, Sharps, and Merrills as well as other stuff you find associated with Campsites ( i.e. Watch Keys, Flower Kepi Buttons (A Pair), etc.)

Sentinel, RTDE3, and James Bibb diggin' it up at the Beach last weekend!

Thanks Bob :icon_thumleft:

I thought about that too Bob. But seems like it would be the whole Railroad line name instead of just "Erie". Could be though...I definitely thought about it as well

Yes they're game pieces but I've never dug one that was marked "Sterling" on the bottom. :icon_scratch:

Most of them are Brass.

Thanks Sniffy my man! 8)

NOLA_Ken · Jun 27, 2011

Nice haul! I'd say the Erie badge could be from the railroad, they did make a lot of items with just ERIE on them. But there were other companies called Erie as well. Could be Erie meter systems as well they made electrical devices. It'd would be worth researching.

Steve in PA · Jun 27, 2011

Nice assortment of relics and coins Josh

Is it me, or do you seem to find more than your fair share of silver Washington quarters on your CW and colonial sites :laughing7:

Palmetto · Jun 27, 2011

Good digging Sentinel-
Found about 5 of those game peices (all brass) and that is what I always assumed they are, but is it finally nice to get a definite from someone with your knowlege and experience.
Take care.
