Garret Ace250/Prospecter Bounty hunter(Backup)
Well the weather up here has been great lately and I have been able to get out and swing quite a bit. I had some software issues but they seem to be solved, for now, so I got a few pics ready to post.
First off I was hunting in my hometown where there is a park of considerable size. I got a solid dime hit and dug up a nice sterling and opal ring. The area was fairly trashy but those dimes sing pretty good on the little Ace250. Speaking of dimes, the clad count is getting pretty crazy. My last three outtings have netted about $40 in clad. The only old coins to speak of are two wheat pennies and a 1950 nickle, but I'll take 'em!!!!

Having said that, I DID hit a piece of silver in a farm turned sports park. You will see in the pics a ring with eagles on each side and 13 stars surrounding where the stone should be. I did look through the surrounding ground and never could find the stone. The fact that the ring is old is a given. The farm was from about 1800 and I honestly think the ring might be easily that old. There is no 925 mark on it but it is sterling. If anyone has any information to help me identify it I would greatly appeciate it.

So back to the first park I go as I was driven away by rain. What I found there was a 14k gold ring with what is certainly the ugliest opal cabachone ever made :P Not that I am complaining, just stating a fact. That is one UGLY ring!

Now....Yesterday I went out looking for a ring for an individual that lost one. I have looked for it a couple of times these past few days. I wish I had had my camera yesterday, as what I found was just sickening. This lady obviously either borrowed a detector or had a friend borrow one and the track at the highschool, or rather the field inside of it, was full of holes, BIG holes with dirt and plugs laying all over. I spent a good deal of time cleaning up whoevers mess so I might be able to hunt there in the future. It was, very simply grotesque and had I not have cleaned it up, I am sure I would never be allowed to hunt there again nor would anyone else.

Having said that, the day was far from unsucessful. I found bunch of clad and two rings...One is a nice sterling and turquoise, and the other just a nice small sterling band.

So, five rings in as many outtings and a whole lotta clad later, I am a happy camper.
ENJOY!

Thanks to everyone for the great comments. I really do like the eagle ring as well and will most definitely keep it. It has character! The opal is going to my mom for her 75th birthday. And I don;t mean that ugly brown cabachon thing. She saw the one set in silver and just loved it, so I clean her up and straightened it out and it is boxed and ready.

For those that don't know, the reason I have not been posting is the coil on my machine went bad and I had to send it to Texas to be repaired...That combined with the software issue kept me from showing y'all what goodies I had found.

The machine is back. I am back. The software is fixed and I guarantee you more posts will be forthcoming!

Thanks again to a great bunch of folks. You are all the best!

Hey, Nash, it's great to see ya out and makin' some good finds. I really like that eagle ring. Don't you wish it could talk and tell you some history about who lost it.

WTG Nash.......very nice finds. You obviously got that machine fixed. I think the military ring is pretty cool too.

Lejeuene what ever happened to you ??? I remember you bought a dfx then...got addicted with coin roll hunting? Have you been hunting in the fields or just the bank?

Great finds. Thanks for cleaning up after a thoughtless person. I have been told on different occasions I can't hunt a place because someone butcherd their property or hunted without permission.

Honestly, when I walked out there and saw that mess, all I could do was shake my head and get on with getting the grounds back in the best condition possible. By the time I was done it was about as good as possible considering the nature of the destruction and the soil type. Luckily I was able to put most of the grass back on top of the holes so when it grows a bit, perhaps noone will even notice. IF someone saw of any importance saw it, I would imagine there will be a city ordinance against Metal detecting very soon. It is a smallish ,but very wealthy, coastal community. The saddest part is the lady who is responsible is a teacher at the school where it happened :-X :-X :-X

that clad sure adds up ! and nice rings also nash ,congrats ;)

You da man Nash! I love the eagle ring best.

Sorry you had to clean up behind the hole monster but the keepers were worth it.

Thanks for cleaning up after the teacher. I had one of those situations a couple weeks back...what a mess! Cleaned up one tot lot today too cuz whoever was there before me didn't bother filling their holes. Great rings, I like Gramma's opal the best...$40 bucks in clad is a lot of dough! It takes me several weeks to find that much! Congrats.

Very nice finds! I happen to love opals, maybe will find or buy one for myself someday. As for the "ugly" ring, I kind of think its neat. I like unusual stuff. Looks like something not a lot of other people would be wearing! :)

Nice finds Nashoba ;D ;D

Keep at it and the rings will come. I dig a LOT Of holes and spend a lot of time working my detector. It is fun, but it is also hard work and makes for some tiring days. The rewards are worth it though!
