Well the weather up here has been great lately and I have been able to get out and swing quite a bit. I had some software issues but they seem to be solved, for now, so I got a few pics ready to post.
First off I was hunting in my hometown where there is a park of considerable size. I got a solid dime hit and dug up a nice sterling and opal ring. The area was fairly trashy but those dimes sing pretty good on the little Ace250. Speaking of dimes, the clad count is getting pretty crazy. My last three outtings have netted about $40 in clad. The only old coins to speak of are two wheat pennies and a 1950 nickle, but I'll take 'em!!!!
Having said that, I DID hit a piece of silver in a farm turned sports park. You will see in the pics a ring with eagles on each side and 13 stars surrounding where the stone should be. I did look through the surrounding ground and never could find the stone. The fact that the ring is old is a given. The farm was from about 1800 and I honestly think the ring might be easily that old. There is no 925 mark on it but it is sterling. If anyone has any information to help me identify it I would greatly appeciate it.
So back to the first park I go as I was driven away by rain. What I found there was a 14k gold ring with what is certainly the ugliest opal cabachone ever made :P Not that I am complaining, just stating a fact. That is one UGLY ring!
Now....Yesterday I went out looking for a ring for an individual that lost one. I have looked for it a couple of times these past few days. I wish I had had my camera yesterday, as what I found was just sickening. This lady obviously either borrowed a detector or had a friend borrow one and the track at the highschool, or rather the field inside of it, was full of holes, BIG holes with dirt and plugs laying all over. I spent a good deal of time cleaning up whoevers mess so I might be able to hunt there in the future. It was, very simply grotesque and had I not have cleaned it up, I am sure I would never be allowed to hunt there again nor would anyone else.
Having said that, the day was far from unsucessful. I found bunch of clad and two rings...One is a nice sterling and turquoise, and the other just a nice small sterling band.
So, five rings in as many outtings and a whole lotta clad later, I am a happy camper.
ENJOY!
