Lead Cap to What

Hello All. I found this yesterday at 1900 farmhouse. It is not magnetic and appears to have been hinged on one side and pinned on the other. The concave side is engraved with three patent dates, two of which are readable: 7/6/20 and 11/6/23.

It was nearly 12-IN deep under some massive tree roots. I am thinking it was a car part or went to stationary fuel tank or maybe a stove.

Looks like a moto meter/ radiator cap similar to one in link.
Would have been two pieces, bottom would have threads to screw onto threaded radiator neck ,Hole in top is for a moto meter temp gauge.
