:hello:

Well over the past month or so I have posted very little :-[ the odd time I have got out has been hampered, either by lack of new fields, or bad weather :'( so the bits and bobs I have managed to find I have saved to make up a post

The first picture shows a tiny Silver coin :o it's a Venice Hammered Soldino AD1500s (a first for me) I have seen these found before, but this is my first :sunny:..... issue of Venice by Doge Laurendan 1501-1521AD. I have had to soak this coin in Lemon Juice for nearly two weeks :o to get some detail out :o.

I also found a unusuall whatsit from one of my Saxon sites, that I am still waiting for a ID on :P can't make up my mind if the piece depicts animal heads either end :dontknow: but it looks as if there once was something in each end that might have been eyes, perhaps enamelled :dontknow:

The Roman Bronze coin has some decent detail still remaining :P another one I will have to look up ::) looks 4th century :dontknow: and a nice Livery button :o which I don't find many off, so I was well pleased with this :laughing9:

Last but not least my best Saxon Styca(base penny) of Osberht....... Kings of Northumbria Circa 848-867 with Moneyer Winiberht :headbang:

I just finished a Little Scrapper...a local India Pale ale with a ton of hops when I read this post.
Those finds are crackling! Er, I mean cracking! I better switch to the lager. ;D
Seriously S.S. Why is this post entitled "Lean times again" :icon_scratch:
That stuff would make my whole year! WTG!
Cheers,
Dave.
Thanks Dave....I suppose it's because me and Cru take things a little for granted :-X especially knowing how you and the outher boys over the pond......have to work for your Great finds

Work it we do! That's why by the late 80's I was calling myself the "Leftover King" :icon_king:
I have to research like mad and usually drive for 4 hours to get an early site. The only historic areas outside the city have fallen to development and the most obvious spots were hammered years ago.
I imagine that you could pick any field in the U.K. and still find at least one thing older than my oldest site! Although there is a slight chance some prehistoric copper might show up and then I've got you beat for age. Otherwise forget it!
Nice finds,
Dave.

Also my performance has dropped to have not new fields , thank one near the dumps largest in Europe 19th century and a 17th century farmhouse, the Roman cities are far and need to spend a whole day ... . has a lot of patience to clean a coin in two weeks with lemon juice :o
greetings!!

I normally expect 1 a hunt (on average land), worst case 1 in 3.

A fine haul Silver Searcher

Ahh, a fellow hophead :icon_thumleft: Have you tried brewing your own?-makes for a fun winter pastime. IPA's are pretty easy to replicate :headbang:
