Found these couple weeks ago, just gotta round to cleaning them a bit. Does anyone know about what year these might be from. Found both in same hole under old dry line posts. Thanks.

Interesting... I haven't found a match yet but my initial thought is that they were probably suspender buttons... Nice find

Hey hope all is going sweet over there on the West Coast.. I have been looking through some buttons of Levi's and I can not come up with this style of flat button you found.

Picture 2 shows the buttons used during the Era: 1902 ~ 1928 period.
This is a black donut top button used on the LEVIS 201XX Lot. No. 2 jeans. It is considered the most basic style of top button by Levis with " LEVI STRAUSS & CO * " stamped on it. Only Black button to be found on levi's will be from this era. Very Rare.

Picture 1 shows Era: 1930 ~ 1941 period, 1945-Modern Peroid.
The donut core was filled and molded into a solid heart top button for the 501XX series. Levis decided to include it's country of origin, and thus, " * S . F CAL * " was inserted in together with the other characters. This button is the father of the modern button used currently.

Just from the look of the print which that lettering of style was used in the 1920s til about 1929 I would say this button could be from about 1920-early 1930 but this style of print is also used alot during the 1960s. But again I have not been able to find this style button, all the other levis buttons are easy to find.

Also I had the photos upload wrong, picture 2 is of the oldest and picture 1 of the newest, but i do not think that is going to help much anyhow! There are vintage levi websites out there, you could try finding a email contact for one.

Hey RayRay,

Nice finds, sir. What size are they? The company made a plethora of different garments over the years. Do you have a sense for what they might have been; jacket buttons, shirt, trouser?

The company has an Archive and Conservator at the San Francisco offices. Heritage | Levi Strauss & Co. You might enquire of her.

After reading alittle bit more about vintage Levis.. They (Levis) says "Only Black button to be found on levi's will be from this era (1902-1928) and are very rare" So i'm going to say since this is a black style button that it is from the 1902-1928 period!

Cool.
I have a good feeling about these.
At first glance I thought early 70's psychedelia.
But after a second glance I'm leaning more toward early 20th century.
Both references to this include the word "rare" (black button and the website).
Anyone sign up to the website that nhbenz posted as to get a price?

I guess I was just wondering if it was the same size as the button on the front of the Levis but I guess that's exactly what it is... Probably won't need size references. THX
