Went out for a long hunt on Sunday with mom to our honey hole of a field. Farmer was just clearing some soy beans for us and I B- lined it to the old hot spot. First good signal ended up being my newest large cent an 1844 in decent shape. Second good signal was this 17XX Liberty Cap Half cent my 2nd and the 3rd or 4th from this field! Found one more button and decided to leave and come back when the whole field is cut. Went to a set of new fields we had got permission for weeks ago. The soy beans were cut and nothing was planted. These fields have apparently been hammered in the past so I didn't have much hope. But first few signals were buttons and old ones at that. Many Tombacs, flatties and a few ball buttons. I managed a real nice Eagle A cufflink button with that sweet green patina. Near the end of the day I get a foily type signal and its on the surface. Just used the pinpointer and brushed away a tiny little silver coin. DISME! Not quite but I did find my first Trime. 1857 just sitting on the surface. These buggers are TINY, see pic with it on Injun. Mom ended up getting a nice Braided hair large and a super sweet 1853 Seated HALF Dime Love token! Very tiny also! So that field may have some more potential. Here are some pics from my phone, cant find my camera cord.
Also found a very strange silver ball type of object that is squished. It looks old but not sure if its an old drawyer pull or cane top.

Freaking SWEET! Congrats on a great hunt!!

Great coins and relics! Haven't found a half cent yet...or a 3 center. My time will come!

Nice coins

Great Coins and Buttons! Love the Trime, the design is so unique! Those fields are being very good to you two! Can't wait to see what you find next! :icon_thumleft:

That's a nice group of finds, love that 3 center.

Excellent finds indeed!! I have owned a few 3-Cent silvers but I have never found one. You sure are right about the size! The other "squished" item has me wondering what it is.

From one SJ James to another, congrats on some great finds!

You had a good day with some nice finds, I wonder if the squashed ball, might be a Silver bell, perhaps from a Bird of Prey.:dontknow:

Awesome hunt, congrats!! New Jersey needs a good story like this.

Those are some great coins! Nice pieces of 19th Century history!

Nice group of finds Jim. The artillery cuff button is a real beauty - nice detail and patina.

Awesome finds! How did you get the Trime so clean? lol
That is how most silver comes out of the ground. Some trimes were 75% silver and the rest were 90%, and silver does not break down like copper or brass. As you can see in the first picture, the trime is black. Silver oxidizes black. That is the worst thing that happens to coins in the dirt, until the digger starts rubbing the dirt off with dirty hands, but that is another story.
