This is not bashing of AT Pro. You guys with screens have a lot to learn!!!

For one thing these I'd numbers don't mean squat as you'll get different numbers depending on yet targets orientation to the coil....

I know that...it is just helpful for my buddy who just bought s used AT Pro to have some idea where things might ring in on his machine. I advised him to run with zero discrimination in Pro Zero and dig everything till he really learns his machine.

I agree sandman I've had Indian head cents come in in the 80s down to high 60s while in the ground. These numbers are a ref but when you are in a trashy area don't even use the screen just listen for a good tone in the trash. Iron and a good target in same spot and those numbers are worthless.

oh..here we go again. you seem to chime in on anything to do with an at pro. common sense is numbers vary for every condition. all this is , is a simple guide on how the machine reads targets. i asked the same question when i got my atp..and this was helpful for me..
and i dont always go by the screen. its just a good thing to have for certain areas.
you dont have to start shiii with everyone that wants to learn this machine

Best setup for me now is pro zero sens as high as possible iron to 35 and iron audio on. Sure it's noisy but you can hear the targets in the trash. I've tried 0 on iron also but using iron audio on with iron at 35 seems to work better at the site I'm hunting now. If I get out of a trashy area I run wide open with iron auto off and iron at 0. Try this setup out it works in my area. Good luck everyone.

Target orientation does effect vdi readings, true enough. Just as it can effect sound produced in your headphones! I have found targets less than six inches deep, will normally read accurate. I can tell a quarter, from a penny, looking at the vdi. So to say vdi's mean nothing is not a very helpful or accurate statement. I have dug coins on edge that gave a consistent reading. Maybe a different number, dependant on left or right swing. Yet consistent enough from each swing for me to dig. Found a loonie once this way. Yeah, it was on it's edge.
Don't get me wrong, vdi is not the only info. But when paired with sound, it will tell you more information. So why not use it…..

I agree. It's definitely more accurate than not. I can tell what I'm going to dig at least 75% of the time by the VDI. Coins closer to 90%. And what I mean by "can tell what I'm going to dig" I mean the composition of the metal.

I run my ATP in pro zero no iron disc.....if i am at an old home site or a civil war site....i dig a ALL mid and high tones that are repeatable and only check vdi for reference. But Vdi readout is much more useful at newer sites with foil and tabs. I know that i could be missing a gold ring but i have the option to dig or not with my readout.....and personally i am more looking for coins and relics.

The only way your going to learn is to dig and learn what your defector is telling you.

The same number, and tone, can be something totally different next hole...................I love suprises!!
The only way your going to learn is to dig and learn what your defector is telling you.
