What does the back look like?

The back is basically the same as front just inverted...its not a flat back

So it is heavy, cast brass? Not thin, pressed?

It's fairly thick. Somewhere between 16th and 8th inch I suppose

I'm thinking part of a ladies fashion accessory like a brooch or a hat pin. Late 19th C the bird theme was very popular.
