LLK & Dad sweating it out near the river! 4 Large cents !!!
It's been rather hot here in Northeastern PA the last few days. Took LLK to the local school Saturday night found a few clads. Went to her Grandmom's Sunday morning took her to my old ferry crossing site. This ferry crossing is one of the first in the county. It was in use from the late 1700's until the 1880's. You find a wide range of coins, all 100+ years old, all the coins seem to hold up well in the river mud and muck. She was swinging the detector and I was the "designated digger". We found a few pieces of hand forged horse shoe and four large cents. 1837, 1850 counterstamped "A SILVERS" and two 18??. We tried out the "hot peroxide" method of cleaning them, took off most of the river crude and worked well. LLK wanted me to include a photo of the junk we dug. (Just so you know we dig a lot of junk like the rest of you!)
