Well we had our first detecting of the year today. Found .11 cents and a pocketfull of junk this morning. LLK (Lucky Little Kid) wanted to try again this afternoon. Went to a local house built in the 1870's that has been remodeled many times over the years. LLK wanted to search under the porch. After a few minutes of grumbling and complaining she said she was going to try near the old stairs under the existing porch. The next thing I heard was the eardrum shattering shrieks of a nine year old girl digging up an old canning jar full of something "heavy". LLK was shaking so badly I could here the coins rattle in the jar. After we got the lid off and dumped out the contents, there we stood staring at a pile of Eisenhower Dollar coins, 100 of them to be exact! The family that lived in the house from the late 1930's until the early 1990's had thirteen children, I am sure this had to be their "Rainy Day" money. LLK hunted a few more minutes and also found a 1930 Wheat Penny. LLK may have had all the luck finding this cache today, but I believe I'm the lucky one for having such a great detecting Buddy!

What a sweet story and a huge Congrats to LLK!

As for the Banner. I think what nuggy said above is true, at least as far as what I read. I don't think it qualifies for the Banner since technically a non-member made the find. Perhaps a fine point to many of us but probably better to keep the rules even for all. Once you start to bend them, where do you stop?

It is really nice of everyone to try tho.

I agree with you but there are exceptions to every rule and I think this qualifies. Lets just keep the pressure on the powers that be and maybe they will put it on the banner (where it belongs) just to shut us up :icon_pirat:

Don't bend the rules, but change them, or extend the membership to include immediate family. After all, isn't this a family friendly site? And should we not use this site to encourage a responsible hobby? HH, Roger

This ole granma just voted BANNER! LLK, you didn't give up and wham-oo! You found it! I'm happy to hear on this thread that many kids get involved with their families in detecting. I've found one Sacagawea dollar coin so far, got a ways to go! Andi

:notworthy: Way to go Little one(LLK).
I'd gave anything to have been standing there and saw the look on that child's face when all of her hunches just popped into reality. That's Fantastic and I'm proud of you young lady for developing the ambition to think outside of the box . You can hang with me anytime LLK . :headbang: :hello:

Congrats! :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

Great story too..have your daughter join Tnet and let's put her on the BANNER!

LLK and I just wanted to thank everyone for your support and banner votes. After receiving many pm's and emails to change our user name to include LLK we did, after all rules are rules. We don't post anything on the forum in hopes of making the BANNER, we just wanted to share our good luck with everyone. As mushy as it seems at the end of the day, my daughter and I will never forget that find and hopefully we will have many more together.

That ain't mushy atall!

That's what the best memories are made of!

WoW! I just got past that purty smile n jar of coins n saw those old steps! Now all I can think of is gettin out and finding a jar of my own. Thanks for sharing. :hello2:

Excellent! Simply put, "That Rocks!" At least that's what my 2 year old daughter would say.......

I have felt her pain........uh...excitement. Mine was the pain. I have found 3 zinc lids, always top up, but never with a jar underneath one. Too cool.
